I’m a little late sharing my summer essentials, but better late than never! I hope you all have been having a great summer, I definitely have been! With the kids being out of school and not being in a full time summer camp, we have been BUSY!

Although I’ve taken literally forever to get this post done, it actually works out better because the things I’ll be sharing are things that I’ve been using all summer long! Let’s get into it!

Let’s start with the obvious, swimwear!

Obviously, this is deeply personal, but what’s most important is that you pick swimsuits that you feel comfortable in. The ones that I’m sharing here are ones that I own and that I feel work well for me. For reference, I am pear shaped, but I have a pretty large bust. I typically feel best in swimwear that is supportive in the bust and have a higher leg. I’ve found that when the bottoms hit too low on my hips, they don’t seem as flattering (to me). I’m also linking some cover ups!

When you aren’t wearing swimwear, you need some clothes

In the summer, I live in dresses! Generally, I like to wear pants, but during the summer it’s just too hot! Below, I’m sharing some cool & cute dresses!

My favorite category, accessories!

Summer is the time to introduce bright, fun accessories! I love to jazz up a basic outfit with eye catching jewelry, bags, & shoes! I also don’t mind spending a little more on these things if they are items that I will wear year after year. Denim is also very big this summer, check out some more denim options here.

Exhibit A, the brightest bag I own
Exhibit B, watermelon earrings

We gotta have the glowing skin…

For my makeup in the summer, I like to keep it easy! I focus on radiant, natural looking skin! I also love my body to have radiance during the summer! Of course, I’m also sharing some sunscreens that I enjoy. Check out my 5 minute face below!

And of course, we need Summer fragrances!

I could share TONS of summer fragrances with you all, but I decided to only share a few. I’m also linking a couple of my videos (here and here) for more suggestions!

I know I shared a lot in this post, but I honestly could have shared more! What are your summer essentials?

Denim handbags are coming in hot for this spring & summer! I have loved this trend over the past couple of years, but this year, I finally caved and gave into it. This year, I’m happy to see that there are more affordable versions. Keep reading to see all the beautiful denim bags I’ve found and which one I ended up purchasing!

  1. Tory Burch Fleming Mini Crescent Shoulder Bag This one is super cute to me! I love the chunky silver chain and the shape of this bag.
  2. Bottega Veneta Small Cassette Cross-Body Bucket Bag This brand is very expensive, but compared to some of their other bags, this is relatively affordable. This can be worn crossbody and seems like it would fit all my essentials.
  3. MKP Quilted Crossbody Small Shoulder Bag This has been in my Amazon cart for ages. I think it’s cute and very Chanel-esque.
  4. Marc Jacobs Deconstructed Denim St. Marc. I think this is a really interesting shape that is classy, but made edgy with all the different types of denim.
  5. Coach Quilted Denim Tabby. This is the hot bag right now! The one pictured is in the size 26 (basically the medium), but it is also available in a smaller size. This has been selling out like crazy, but it has been being restocked.
  6. Marc Jacobs Crystal Denim St. Marc. I love the shape of this bag. This denim is dressed up with crystals all over it. It’s definitely a denim bag that could go from day to night.
  7. Target Denim Sophie Crossbody Bag. This bag is definitely giving Bottega vibes at a tiny fraction of the price. I like this one, but I think it would have looked better if they used different shades of denim.
  8. Denim Chain Bag. This is another very Chanel-esque bag, but I love the look of this. This one features frayed edges to make the chevron pattern.
  9. Tory Burch Small Denim Fleming. The Fleming is a classic Tory Burch shape, but this one is remixed with denim and silver hardware.
  10. Jacquemus Le Bambimou Denim Bag This bag is currently on major sale! I love the color and size of this one.
  11. Chanel Quilted Denim Mini Pearl Crush Bag I could never spend this much money on a denim handbag, but it is an absolute beauty!
  12. Woven Shoulder Bag. If you are more of a tote bag type of girl, this one is great for an easy relaxed look. Also, it’s not very expensive!
  13. Tory Burch Mini Denim Soft Fleming Chain Tote. I love the look of this mini tote and the color of the denim. It also comes with a crossbody strap.
  14. Kurt Geiger Large Denim Kensington Bag. I love the different shades of denim they used in this bag. Although it is a large bag, I think the denim makes it pretty casual and probably lightweight.
  15. Kurt Geiger Mini Denim Kensington Bag. This is the mini version of the previous bag for the small bag girlies!
  16. YSL Small Denim Puffer Bag. This is the denim bag that I fell in love with a few years ago in the toy size. I have a small YSL Loulou Puffer in leather, but this denim version is sooooo good. I can’t bring myself to pay this much for a denim bag, but I love it nevertheless.

Which bag do you think I picked up? Click here to find out!

If you watch a lot of YouTube, you may have seen this topic going around. For those of us that love to shop, physically writing down a list of things that you will not purchase, may be helpful for your accountability. I’m definitely in that “love to shop” group, so I thought I would share my list with you!

  1. I’m not buying any extremely cheap jewelry for one time use. I have been on a jewelry kick for the last 6 months or so, and over that time I have purchased some investment pieces. I’ve really enjoyed building my fine jewelry collection. I have also purchased some costume jewelry, but I have been pretty selective with that because I know that I have a tendency to buy things because they are “cheap”, but then I never wear them. At my big old age of 40, I’m pretty much done with that. There is nothing wrong with inexpensive jewelry, I just am being very mindful with those purchases. I also like the idea of having jewelry that will last the test of time that I can eventually give to my daughter or future daughter-in-law.
  2. I’m not buying any more large tote bags! I love a good tote bag and they definitely serve a purpose in my life. They are great for travel and if I need to carry a lot of things with me. However, I think I’ve reached a point in my bag collection, that I have tote bags for any reason that I could find. I’m not the person who loves to carry a large tote day-to-day, so realistically I probably don’t need more than 2 (and I have way more than that)!
  3. I’m not buying cheap shoes. Now I know this one may be controversial, but hear me out. It’s really not about the price of the shoes, because I love a good deal. It’s more so about the quality and in this case, “cheap” means low quality, not low-price. I have been that girl to purchase $7 sandals and then wonder why my feet are killing me. I’ve found this to be even more true with closed toe shoes such as boots and pumps. I’m no longer in the business of sacrificing my feet just to save a few bucks! This also goes for shoes that don’t feel comfortable when I try them on!
  4. I’m done buying eyeshadow palettes. If you saw my makeup stash, you would think I wore eyeshadow everyday. In all actuality, I only wear eyeshadow around once a week. At this point, I think I have every single color that I could ever possibly want. Eyeshadow palettes are always so tempting to me, but enough is enough!
  5. I’m not buying any SLG’s. If you are a person who consumes a lot of luxury content on the internet, you know what an SLG is. For those of you who don’t, an SLG stands for Small Leather Good. This basically applies to wallets, key holders, card cases, pouches, etc. I personally love having a variety of these sorts of things, but I don’t need anymore. I have probably over 5 card cases, 2 or 3 wallets, and pouches of every size. These little items bring me joy when I open my bag and see them (especially in bright pops of color), but I have enough. I’m not saying I will never buy any of these again, but I won’t in 2024!

Now, I know I didn’t touch on fragrance in this post, but I do have some fragrance resolutions. Would you like to see those? If so, in what format, text or short form video?

Until next time…

For me, 2023 was interesting to say the least. In some ways, it was the worst year of my life. In other ways, I discovered new things about myself and had some amazingly fun moments. Let’s catch up!

So, we will start with the bad because I’d like to end this post on a positive note. In October 2022 (I know that was last year, but hear me out), my mom was diagnosed with Stage 4 Renal Cancer. Because of that, 2023 started out very rocky. My mom eventually passed away in April of 2023 and I was (and still am) shook to my core. My mother and I were very close and I never imagined that I would lose her at such a young age. I expected her to be around to see my kids grow up, to be there for graduations, to see me become a better mother, and hopefully to even see me become a grandmother. Let me back that up by saying, my great grandmother lived to see her very late 90’s and my great-great aunt lived to be over 100. My mother was the centerpiece of my family and everything is different now that she is not around. Needless to say, I’m still grieving and figuring out how to navigate a life in which she is no longer physically involved.

I can easily say, that this is the most difficult thing I have had to go through. However, it did change my outlook on life and in some ways I have grown.

Besides my mother’s death, 2023 was the year that I did things differently. In ways, I feel like her death helped me to realize that MY LIFE SHOULD BE LIVED! I should not just simply exist. So this year, I did a better job of taking initiative with my friends, not sweating the small stuff with my kids, and doing things for me and only me.

So now, let’s talk about the wins!

My husband and I were able to retire from our pharmacist careers and now we are solely focused on our businesses.

The second half of this year, my husband and I got back to regular date nights! I love that for us because it has helped us hold on to who we are as a couple and not just as parents.

I went on SEVERAL trips this year! Some with friends, and some with family! I even managed to sneak in a trip with my hubby!

I got a couple of new tattoos and ear piercings.

I spent WAAAAAAY too much money, but I didn’t go into debt to do that. Next year, I will be better though!

I turned 40 this year and had an amazing sleepover party with friends!

I had a lot of fun with my local friends and made much more of an effort to be present with them! This year I strengthened bonds with my friends like never before.

Overall, 2023 sucked in one major way, but also was amazing in some major ways. Life is for the living and I plan to try to always remember that. I don’t want to look back at my life and regret not doing things that I always wanted to do. I’m trying to make the best of my life and although things aren’t perfect, I am blessed and I plan to walk proudly in God’s favor.

Happy New Year!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, the Sephora Holiday Savings Event! Right now, Beauty Insiders can save up to 20% off all items in store or online. I’ve compiled some fragrances that I think would be a great pickup during the sale!

  1. These perfume samplers are a great way to try out fragrances. This is a nice one for people who are just trying to discover a new fragrance. This set may not be the best for an experienced fragrance lover.
  2. Armani Si Intense is a deep fruity scent that has some woodiness and earthiness to it. The smell reminds me of a sweet red wine!
  3. Kilian Smoking Hot is based on the smell of apple hookah. It has a delicious fruity sweetness combined with a rich smokiness. Full review here.
  4. Dolce & Gabbana Devotion is a new fragrance that features candied citruses and a beautiful edible vanilla.
  5. Kayali Vanilla Royale Sugared Patchouli is my favorite fragrance from Kayali. It is a deep earthy, woody, slightly leathery vanilla. This one is great for cold weather.
  6. Burberry Goddess is the newest release from Burberry and it is a pleasant easy going vanilla scent with a little lavender. I find this scent to be comforting.
  7. Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille is one of my staple fragrances for cold weather. It is a sweet and spicy combination of tobacco and vanilla. It also features Christmas type spices (think cloves, cardamom, etc.)
  8. Maison Margiela Replica By The Fireplace smells like a campfire with roasting marshmallows. After awhile, some of the smokiness goes away and leaves behind a beautiful rich vanilla. This is a limited edition bottle that is absolutely stunning!
  9. This is another fragrance sampler that has some more challenging scents in it than the other one. With both of these samplers, you get a trial or sample size of the fragrances shown. Also in the box, is a certificate to redeem for a full size bottle of one of the fragrances featured. Love these for gift giving!

I keep hearing people mention Fall, but Summer is not over yet! You still have time to take that last minute beach vacation before temperatures start to drop! Check out my essentials for a beach vacay!

A Foldable-Packable Beach Tote

For those of you who have been around for awhile, you know I’m a BAG GIRL! Getting a soft foldable beach tote changed my life! I know, dramatic, but I’m serious. The first one that I got was a huge green one from Mango, that unfortunately is no longer available. No worries though, I’ve linked some great alternatives below!

A Brightly-Colored Handbag

Also, I think a bright handbag is crucial for a beach vacation! If you are not the type of person who takes risks on brightly colored bags, what better time to try it out than while on vacation?! I’ve found that bright handbags give me a sense of happiness when I look at them and they also take a plain outfit up a few notches! Check out some options that I have linked below in all price ranges!

A Cute Crochet Cover Up

A crochet cover up is great when you want to look beach or pool ready, but not be overly exposed. I also find that most crochet cover ups provide enough coverage to be suitable for going straight to lunch after your water time. Not to mention, they dry really quickly. They are cute and practical!

Cute Water Proof Slides

Now of course, you can always wear a basic flip-flop to the beach, but I love to have a slightly jazzed up version. My favorite waterproof sandals are dupes for the once famous Valentino Rockstud Jelly Flip Flops. I’ve linked the real thing and some other nice options!

Easy Maxi Dresses

Maxi dresses are perfect for vacation because they generally exude carefree vibes! They also require no thought because they are literally a one and done outfit. Also, don’t worry if you forgot to shave your legs, nobody will see them! LOL

The Perfect Beachy Fragrance

I have a whole video dedicated to beachy fragrances, check it out here!

Easy Natural-ish Makeup

I personally don’t wear makeup on the beach, but I do love to go for easy, natural looking makeup during the other times of the vacation. I typically either go for a skin tint or powder foundation. I also make sure to take a bronzer that will work for my normal skin color and my tanned one. I’ve linked some products that help me get the perfect easy going makeup look for vacation!

One thing about me, I’m always shopping. That doesn’t mean I’m always buying, but I love to peruse the internet in search of the best items and then share them with you all. Check out the items that caught my eye this week.

  1. Denim is everywhere right now and I cam across these denim sandals that I absolutely love. I think they are a classic enough style that has that touch of something different with the denim. I also like the chunky heel.
  2. I love a good jumpsuit moment and this one is really pretty. This could easily be dressed up with heels or dressed down with flats or sneakers. It also looks really flow and comfortable.
  3. Crochet is another trend this season and I love this little brightly colored crochet bag. Although it’s crochet, it is reinforced with a leather interior so nobody can see inside the bag and your items are well protected inside.
  4. Pink coupe glasses with gold rims, need I say more? Not only are they beautiful, the price is amazing. I’ll be buying these right after I finish this post!
  5. This little gadget is now on my wishlist. It is an insert that you can use with your toaster to make melty sandwiches. It supposedly gets the perfect crispness on the bread while melting the cheese in the middle. Do I need it? No. Do I want it? Absolutely!
  6. It’s no secret that I love the YSL LouLou Puffer bag. This one is the most perfect bright, happy, green! I can’t buy it right now, so I’m hoping one of you all do so I can stop stalking it.
  7. These cute sandals came up on an Instagram ad for me and now I can’t get them out of my mind. I love the bubblegum pink color and they look so plush and comfortable.

Recently I uploaded a video on my Youtube channel that was sharing some of my favorite fragrance layering combinations. One of the commenters on that video wanted to know how I actually go about fragrance layering, so I decided to share my fragrance layering tips!

Why Layer?

Fragrance layering can refer to layering a fragrance with a body lotion, oil, or another fragrance. Often times people layer fragrances to help with longevity and to help the scent be more potent. Other times people layer fragrances to come up with their own unique concoctions.

BklynDream Havilah Body Oil + Tom Ford Bitter Peach

My Rules Of Layering

  • Use similar scented lotions or body oils to pair with fragrances. This is the most common way that I layer. The oils/lotions don’t need to exactly mimic the fragrance, but they should be in the same family. For instance, if I’m wearing a rose scent, I will typically layer with a rose scented body lotion as opposed to a fruity lotion. When I don’t have a lotion that matches well with my fragrance, I use an unscented lotion. Sometimes, I will spray some of my fragrance into my unscented lotion and spread that over my body before actually applying my fragrance.
  • When layering 2 fragrances, choose fragrances that have something in common. The easiest way to layer 2 different fragrances is to make sure they have some sort of prominent note in common. Doing this, will amplify that particular note. For example, if I have a tropical floral scent that I want to smell even more tropical, I may layer it with a coconut scented fragrance.
  • Layer fragrances that don’t necessarily smell alike, but they compliment each other. I like to do this when I feel like experimenting. It’s a little more risky than the last tip, but it can result in a whole new fragrance experience. An example of this would be pairing a fruity scent with a milky scent that ends up smelling like a fruity milkshake!
Similar Notes: Tom Ford Electric Cherry + Mancera Wild Cherry
Complimentary Notes: Tom Ford Electric Cherry + Liquides Imaginaires Blanche Bete
  • Test out your fragrance combos before wearing them full body. This rule is one that I learned the hard way. It’s not fun to spray on 2 fragrances that you love, only to find out that they smell horrible together. To prevent this from happening to me, I will usually spray my hand with the 2 fragrances, let them dry, and then go from there. Sometimes I also will just smell the nozzles of the fragrances together.
  • When layering, apply the heavier fragrance first. When it comes to actually spraying my fragrances on, I will typically spray down the heavier of the two fragrances first. I find that this tends to work better because if done the opposite way, the heavier fragrance may overtake the lighter one. I personally spray the fragrances right over top of each other, but you can really do whatever you prefer. Some people like to spray each fragrance next to each other or spray different body parts with different scents.

THE FINAL & MOST IMPORTANT RULE

There are no rules!!! This should be fun. Layering fragrances is a great way to experiment and have fun with your collection, no matter how big or small it is. Try it out and see what you like. You may find that you don’t like to layer at all, and that is perfectly ok too!

Summer is upon us and during this time of year, many of us (myself included) live in sandals. I have gone through many sandal phases over the years from flip-flops, to slides, and now to the double buckle sandal. I’ve never been a fan of Birkenstocks, but over the past couple of years, this style sandal has been on my radar. This is mainly due to my love of the Louis Vuitton Bom Dia slide, which has been on my wishlist for years, but I can’t bring myself to purchase. This summer, these Birkenstock-like sandals are all over the place and I have purchased quite a few to carry me through! Keep reading to see which ones I’ve picked up and others that have caught my eye!

The Ones I’ve Purchased

White On White Birkenstocks

Let’s start with the most basic pair that I have. These are the traditional Birkenstock Arizona Softbed Sandals. These are all leather and have white buckles, which I prefer over the silver buckles that the normal white Arizonas have. I love that these are so casual that I can throw them on with any pair of jeans, shorts, or casual dress. They are also very comfortable. If you are interested in these, beware that they have a very similar style that has a vegan leather upper. The ones I have are full genuine leather so they cost a bit more, but I felt like it was worth it.

Shiny Big Buckle Birkenstocks

These were the first pair of actual Birkenstocks that I picked up. I like them because the leather is shiny with a black leather interior and a big buckle. These details make them a little more “fancy” and more my style. These even look a little dressy when paired with wide leg trousers. They tend to look like more of a slide as opposed to a Birkenstock.

Schutz Enola Slides

These were the first sandals (besides the LV Bom Dias) of this type to catch my eye. I love the aged look of the leather and hardware. I also love that the buckles are reminiscent of bamboo earrings. These tend to look a little more elevated and work well with outfits that are casual, but cute! This color goes with so many things, but other colors are available too.

Anthropologie Double Buckle Sandals

These are definitely the dressiest of the bunch and I absolutely love them. They are genuine leather and feel glorious. Everything about them is luxe. Of course they can be worn casually, but this metallic gold can easily be dressed up. These would be perfect for a resort vacation because they are super comfy and casual, but you could also wear them to dinner with a maxi dress.
