I’m a little late sharing my summer essentials, but better late than never! I hope you all have been having a great summer, I definitely have been! With the kids being out of school and not being in a full time summer camp, we have been BUSY!

Although I’ve taken literally forever to get this post done, it actually works out better because the things I’ll be sharing are things that I’ve been using all summer long! Let’s get into it!

Let’s start with the obvious, swimwear!

Obviously, this is deeply personal, but what’s most important is that you pick swimsuits that you feel comfortable in. The ones that I’m sharing here are ones that I own and that I feel work well for me. For reference, I am pear shaped, but I have a pretty large bust. I typically feel best in swimwear that is supportive in the bust and have a higher leg. I’ve found that when the bottoms hit too low on my hips, they don’t seem as flattering (to me). I’m also linking some cover ups!

When you aren’t wearing swimwear, you need some clothes

In the summer, I live in dresses! Generally, I like to wear pants, but during the summer it’s just too hot! Below, I’m sharing some cool & cute dresses!

My favorite category, accessories!

Summer is the time to introduce bright, fun accessories! I love to jazz up a basic outfit with eye catching jewelry, bags, & shoes! I also don’t mind spending a little more on these things if they are items that I will wear year after year. Denim is also very big this summer, check out some more denim options here.

Exhibit A, the brightest bag I own
Exhibit B, watermelon earrings

We gotta have the glowing skin…

For my makeup in the summer, I like to keep it easy! I focus on radiant, natural looking skin! I also love my body to have radiance during the summer! Of course, I’m also sharing some sunscreens that I enjoy. Check out my 5 minute face below!

And of course, we need Summer fragrances!

I could share TONS of summer fragrances with you all, but I decided to only share a few. I’m also linking a couple of my videos (here and here) for more suggestions!

I know I shared a lot in this post, but I honestly could have shared more! What are your summer essentials?

What I’m Not Buying in 2024 https://simplyayesha.com/?p=8478&utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=what-im-not-buying-in-2024 https://simplyayesha.com/?p=8478#comments Wed, 24 Jan 2024 18:37:28 +0000 https://simplyayesha.com/?p=8478 If you watch a lot of YouTube, you may have seen this topic going around. If you watch a lot of YouTube, you may have seen this topic going around. For those of us that love to shop, physically writing down a list of things that you will not purchase, may be helpful for your accountability. I’m definitely in that “love to shop” group, so I thought I would share my list with you!

  1. I’m not buying any extremely cheap jewelry for one time use. I have been on a jewelry kick for the last 6 months or so, and over that time I have purchased some investment pieces. I’ve really enjoyed building my fine jewelry collection. I have also purchased some costume jewelry, but I have been pretty selective with that because I know that I have a tendency to buy things because they are “cheap”, but then I never wear them. At my big old age of 40, I’m pretty much done with that. There is nothing wrong with inexpensive jewelry, I just am being very mindful with those purchases. I also like the idea of having jewelry that will last the test of time that I can eventually give to my daughter or future daughter-in-law.
  2. I’m not buying any more large tote bags! I love a good tote bag and they definitely serve a purpose in my life. They are great for travel and if I need to carry a lot of things with me. However, I think I’ve reached a point in my bag collection, that I have tote bags for any reason that I could find. I’m not the person who loves to carry a large tote day-to-day, so realistically I probably don’t need more than 2 (and I have way more than that)!
  3. I’m not buying cheap shoes. Now I know this one may be controversial, but hear me out. It’s really not about the price of the shoes, because I love a good deal. It’s more so about the quality and in this case, “cheap” means low quality, not low-price. I have been that girl to purchase $7 sandals and then wonder why my feet are killing me. I’ve found this to be even more true with closed toe shoes such as boots and pumps. I’m no longer in the business of sacrificing my feet just to save a few bucks! This also goes for shoes that don’t feel comfortable when I try them on!
  4. I’m done buying eyeshadow palettes. If you saw my makeup stash, you would think I wore eyeshadow everyday. In all actuality, I only wear eyeshadow around once a week. At this point, I think I have every single color that I could ever possibly want. Eyeshadow palettes are always so tempting to me, but enough is enough!
  5. I’m not buying any SLG’s. If you are a person who consumes a lot of luxury content on the internet, you know what an SLG is. For those of you who don’t, an SLG stands for Small Leather Good. This basically applies to wallets, key holders, card cases, pouches, etc. I personally love having a variety of these sorts of things, but I don’t need anymore. I have probably over 5 card cases, 2 or 3 wallets, and pouches of every size. These little items bring me joy when I open my bag and see them (especially in bright pops of color), but I have enough. I’m not saying I will never buy any of these again, but I won’t in 2024!

Now, I know I didn’t touch on fragrance in this post, but I do have some fragrance resolutions. Would you like to see those? If so, in what format, text or short form video?

Until next time…

For me, 2023 was interesting to say the least. In some ways, it was the worst year of my life. In other ways, I discovered new things about myself and had some amazingly fun moments. Let’s catch up!

So, we will start with the bad because I’d like to end this post on a positive note. In October 2022 (I know that was last year, but hear me out), my mom was diagnosed with Stage 4 Renal Cancer. Because of that, 2023 started out very rocky. My mom eventually passed away in April of 2023 and I was (and still am) shook to my core. My mother and I were very close and I never imagined that I would lose her at such a young age. I expected her to be around to see my kids grow up, to be there for graduations, to see me become a better mother, and hopefully to even see me become a grandmother. Let me back that up by saying, my great grandmother lived to see her very late 90’s and my great-great aunt lived to be over 100. My mother was the centerpiece of my family and everything is different now that she is not around. Needless to say, I’m still grieving and figuring out how to navigate a life in which she is no longer physically involved.

I can easily say, that this is the most difficult thing I have had to go through. However, it did change my outlook on life and in some ways I have grown.

Besides my mother’s death, 2023 was the year that I did things differently. In ways, I feel like her death helped me to realize that MY LIFE SHOULD BE LIVED! I should not just simply exist. So this year, I did a better job of taking initiative with my friends, not sweating the small stuff with my kids, and doing things for me and only me.

So now, let’s talk about the wins!

My husband and I were able to retire from our pharmacist careers and now we are solely focused on our businesses.

The second half of this year, my husband and I got back to regular date nights! I love that for us because it has helped us hold on to who we are as a couple and not just as parents.

I went on SEVERAL trips this year! Some with friends, and some with family! I even managed to sneak in a trip with my hubby!

I got a couple of new tattoos and ear piercings.

I spent WAAAAAAY too much money, but I didn’t go into debt to do that. Next year, I will be better though!

I turned 40 this year and had an amazing sleepover party with friends!

I had a lot of fun with my local friends and made much more of an effort to be present with them! This year I strengthened bonds with my friends like never before.

Overall, 2023 sucked in one major way, but also was amazing in some major ways. Life is for the living and I plan to try to always remember that. I don’t want to look back at my life and regret not doing things that I always wanted to do. I’m trying to make the best of my life and although things aren’t perfect, I am blessed and I plan to walk proudly in God’s favor.

Happy New Year!

I keep hearing people mention Fall, but Summer is not over yet! You still have time to take that last minute beach vacation before temperatures start to drop! Check out my essentials for a beach vacay!

A Foldable-Packable Beach Tote

For those of you who have been around for awhile, you know I’m a BAG GIRL! Getting a soft foldable beach tote changed my life! I know, dramatic, but I’m serious. The first one that I got was a huge green one from Mango, that unfortunately is no longer available. No worries though, I’ve linked some great alternatives below!

A Brightly-Colored Handbag

Also, I think a bright handbag is crucial for a beach vacation! If you are not the type of person who takes risks on brightly colored bags, what better time to try it out than while on vacation?! I’ve found that bright handbags give me a sense of happiness when I look at them and they also take a plain outfit up a few notches! Check out some options that I have linked below in all price ranges!

A Cute Crochet Cover Up

A crochet cover up is great when you want to look beach or pool ready, but not be overly exposed. I also find that most crochet cover ups provide enough coverage to be suitable for going straight to lunch after your water time. Not to mention, they dry really quickly. They are cute and practical!

Cute Water Proof Slides

Now of course, you can always wear a basic flip-flop to the beach, but I love to have a slightly jazzed up version. My favorite waterproof sandals are dupes for the once famous Valentino Rockstud Jelly Flip Flops. I’ve linked the real thing and some other nice options!

Easy Maxi Dresses

Maxi dresses are perfect for vacation because they generally exude carefree vibes! They also require no thought because they are literally a one and done outfit. Also, don’t worry if you forgot to shave your legs, nobody will see them! LOL

The Perfect Beachy Fragrance

I have a whole video dedicated to beachy fragrances, check it out here!

Easy Natural-ish Makeup

I personally don’t wear makeup on the beach, but I do love to go for easy, natural looking makeup during the other times of the vacation. I typically either go for a skin tint or powder foundation. I also make sure to take a bronzer that will work for my normal skin color and my tanned one. I’ve linked some products that help me get the perfect easy going makeup look for vacation!

One thing about me, I’m always shopping. That doesn’t mean I’m always buying, but I love to peruse the internet in search of the best items and then share them with you all. Check out the items that caught my eye this week.

  1. Denim is everywhere right now and I cam across these denim sandals that I absolutely love. I think they are a classic enough style that has that touch of something different with the denim. I also like the chunky heel.
  2. I love a good jumpsuit moment and this one is really pretty. This could easily be dressed up with heels or dressed down with flats or sneakers. It also looks really flow and comfortable.
  3. Crochet is another trend this season and I love this little brightly colored crochet bag. Although it’s crochet, it is reinforced with a leather interior so nobody can see inside the bag and your items are well protected inside.
  4. Pink coupe glasses with gold rims, need I say more? Not only are they beautiful, the price is amazing. I’ll be buying these right after I finish this post!
  5. This little gadget is now on my wishlist. It is an insert that you can use with your toaster to make melty sandwiches. It supposedly gets the perfect crispness on the bread while melting the cheese in the middle. Do I need it? No. Do I want it? Absolutely!
  6. It’s no secret that I love the YSL LouLou Puffer bag. This one is the most perfect bright, happy, green! I can’t buy it right now, so I’m hoping one of you all do so I can stop stalking it.
  7. These cute sandals came up on an Instagram ad for me and now I can’t get them out of my mind. I love the bubblegum pink color and they look so plush and comfortable.
