Bronzers are one of those makeup items that seem like they wouldn’t work for darker skinned complexions. However, if the right shade is chosen, a bronzer can help bring warmth and dimension to the face that is sometimes taken away by foundation. In today’s installation of my Highlighter/Bronzer series, I wanted to show you some that will work for ladies with a similar skin tone to mine.
Tarte Mineral Bronzer in Hotel Heiress: This is the bronzer that I use on an almost daily basis. Since it is just a little warmer than my skin tone, I use this to help warm up my face and darken up my hairline. It is pigmented, but not so much so that I have to be really careful with it which is great for everyday wear. Sadly, this bronzer is no longer available on the Tarte website, so I think it has been discontinued. You may be able to still find it on alternative sites like beauty.com.
Cargo Bronzer in Dark: This is the lightest bronzer that I use for bronzing (some bronzers I actually use as a highlight) and also the one with the most sheen. This one provides a beautiful golden glow to the skin that is perfect for weekends, outdoor events, etc. Although it looks shimmery in the pan, it doesn’t put on glitter on the skin, it just provides a nice even glow. I tend to mainly use this bronzer on my cheeks. This may not work as a bronzer on skin tones darker than mine.
Covergirl Queen Bronzer in Ebony Bronze: This is my go-to when I’m more tanned or if I want to contour my face. It is a darker, reddish brown that can be used for skin tones much darker than mine. Because of how dark it is and the red undertones, it probably will not be suitable for women of lighter complexions. Covergirl Queen makes 3 bronzers and this is the darkest of the 3. I probably will eventually get the middle shade to use on a more daily basis when my Hotel Heiress runs out.
Sleek Contour Kit in Medium: If you have never heard of Sleek, it is a “drugstore” brand out of the UK that caters to darker skin tones. They have some awesome products and they ship to the US on their website. This shows up as a cool toned brown that is great for contouring the face. This bronzer also comes in a dark shade that will work for deeper skin tones. I don’t contour my face very much, so I don’t reach for this one often, but it is a great product.
Sonia Kashuk Undetectable Cream Bronzer in Rich Bronze: This is the only cream bronzer I own and it is a pretty nice one. I like that it provides a more natural looking bronze than some powder bronzers. Although it is a cream product, it is not oily on the skin and it dries to an almost matte finish. Unfortunately, this is the darkest shade it comes in, so it won’t work for all skin tones.
I hope that this post helped show you some bronzing options for brown skin. Soon I’ll be filming a video that shows how I get glow-y skin using highlighters and bronzers, so stay tuned for that!
Do you bronze? If so, what’s your favorite one?
