Sometime last year, I did a 5 minute makeup challenge in which I used the new OCC lip tar in Nylon. In that post, I mentioned that I thought Nylon was a dupe for the infamous Candy Yum Yum by MAC. At that time, Candy Yum Yum was a limited edition item, so I couldn’t get my hands on it. Last month, MAC finally listened to their loyal customers and decided to make Candy Yum Yum apart of their permanent line. I ordered it because it is probably the most talked about lipstick ever from MAC. Keep reading if you would like to see how the two lipsticks compare!
As you can see in the above photo, Candy Yum Yum is a traditional lipstick while Nylon is a liquid lipstick. With that being said, they apply a lot differently. Nylon definitely requires a lip brush because although it is liquid, it is on the thicker side and will not spread evenly just by rubbing your lips together. Also, the texture causes it to be a little messy, so it needs to be applied carefully so that you don’t get pink stains on the outside of the lip. On the other hand, Candy Yum Yum is a matte lipstick, but it easily glides over the lips and does not feel drying.
As for the color comparison, they are both extremely bright almost neon pinks. Swatched, they don’t look like exact dupes, but on the lips they are very close in color. Nylon is brighter and more neon than Candy Yum Yum in my opinion. Also, since Nylon doesn’t dry down to a matte immediately, it has a glossier finish than Candy Yum Yum.
Both Nylon and Candy Yum Yum are comfortable on the lips and last for quite awhile. I am able to wear these for about 5 hours without having to touch up. After eating or drinking, I can normally just re-blend the color on my lips without having to add any extra product.
Overall, I think both lipsticks are outstanding if you are into bold, look-at-me colors. After comparing the two, I do not think they are dupes, however, if you have one, you may not need the other. I do like the Candy Yum Yum better because I think it is more wearable on my skin tone. I also like that it is much easier to apply than Nylon. Candy Yum Yum retails for $15 and can be purchased at MAC Cosmetics. OCC Nylon retails for $16 and can be purchased at Sephora.
