Today I will be reviewing Curl Junkie Repair Me! reconstructive hair treatment (also known as a protein treatment). Hair strands naturally have pores or holes in them. The size and/or amount of these pores are directly related to hair damage from heat, chemicals, etc. Protein treatments are used to temporarily fill in these pores which increases the strength of the hair strand. I use protein treatments because I have color treated hair which increases the fragile nature of my hair strands.
Curl Junkie Repair Me! retails for $29 for 12 oz. Now I know that sounds expensive, but a little of this product goes a long way. I am still on my first bottle and I have had it for almost a year (I use it about once a month). I think this is in part due to the very creamy consistency.
Key Ingredients: hydrolized keratin protein, keratin amino acids, sunflower seed oil, jojoba seed oil
Product Texture/Consistency: very creamy, feels like a body lotion
Product Claims: to strengthen the hair by filling in cracks in the hair’s cuticle to help prevent breakage, leaves hair revived and soft
How the Product Measures up to the Claims: I really can’t tell if my hair feels stronger after using this product, but I know that it is. The reason I am so sure is because when I go longer than normal without using Repair Me!, I start to see notably more breakage. Immediately after using this product, I do notice increased softness to my hair. I think that this treatment makes my hair softer, but stronger!
How I Use This Product: I apply this to soaking wet hair after shampooing. I make sure to try to coat my hair as evenly as possible. I usually let this sit for 15-20 minutes underneath a shower cap before rinsing it completely out.
- strengthens the hair, but doesn’t leave hair hard like other protein treatments
- pleasant smell
- very creamy consistency which allows it to spread easily through the hair
- pleasant smell
- price is reasonable since this product lasts so long
- Curl Junkie is not readily available in most areas, therefore you have to order online
How do you feel about Repair Me!? Do you use protein treatments on your hair?
